Geography A Level at Teesdale School

Course description

Course Overview:

Year 12

Students start Year 12 by following the two ‘core’ modules for Unit 1:

  • Rivers Floods and Management
  • Population Change

In October, all students attend a 3-day residential in Malham. During this field visit, student will carry out all of the research essential for the Unit 2 examination at the end of Year 12. In the second half of Year 12, students complete the two ‘optional’ modules for Unit 1:

  • Coastal Environments
  • Energy Issues

Year 13

Students start Year 13 by following the three modules for Unit 3:

  • Development and Globalisation
  • Plate Tectonics & Associated Hazards
  • Contemporary Conflicts & Challenges

In February, students then complete a practice geographical issue investigation in preparation for the pre-release materials and the GEO4B exam. These pre-materials will provide the stimulus for the lessons to follow as the build up to the final exams begin.

Assessment information:

Pupils will complete one end of unit assessment every half-term that is marked according to AS/A2 grades.  Assessment will include a variety of tasks, including past and practice exam questions with success criteria to guide students towards their expected targets.
