Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing at City Training Services

Course description

Hairdressing Level 2 provides the fundamental level of skill required by a hairdresser, you will carry out a host of tasks in our modern up-to-date salons using state-of-the-art equipment. At Bradford College we also give you the opportunity to take part in exciting and varied enrichment activities alongside your main qualification which may include trips to hair shows. Students will begin by practicing on each other and progress onto paying clients. Underpinning knowledge will be learnt in a class room environment.

Course content

An integrated qualification at Level 2 which combines competence and technical knowledge elements in which each element is separately assessed and in which each element carries at least 10 credits on the QCF.

To achieve the full qualification candidates must complete 8 mandatory units totalling 48 credits and optional units to a minimum of 6 credits in order to give an overall total of 54 credits.

 

Mandatory units

  • Ensure responsibility for actions to reduce risks to health and safety
  • Give clients a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
  • Advise and consult with clients
  • Shampoo and condition hair and scalp
  • Change hair colour
  • Style and finish hair
  • Set and dress hair
  • Cut hair using basic techniques

Optional units

  • Fulfil salon reception duties
  • Promote additional products or services to clients
  • Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work Plait and twist hair
  • Perm and neutralise hair
  • Attach hair to enhance a style

Entry requirements

It would be an advantage to have a minimum of GCSE grade D in English and math’s. If these are not achieved then a key skills course will we run alongside of the NVQ at college to gain you the qualifications you need. You should also be enthusiastic and committed to success within this exciting and expanding industry.  You need to enjoy working with people.

Assessment

One of our qualified assessors will visit you on site every ten weeks to do a review on your progression and assess the quality of you work.
