Course description

Are you an interested mathematician who has coped well with GCSE? Do you enjoy solving problems and thechallenge of applying your existing mathematical skills in more complicated situations?

Here is your opportunity to fi nd out about new concepts such as mathematical modelling and the whole new world of calculus. You will also have the opportunity to develop skills you already have, especially those in trigonometry and algebra. You will be involved in both practical and investigative work. To help you in this, we provide graphicscalculators and access to mathematical software, but we expect you to provide a scientific calculator. The course we will be offering is the Mathematics in Education and Industry (MEI) Structured Mathematics Scheme. It is designed to cater both for the student who wishes to study mathematics in its own right and the student who needs to develop the mathematical skills required in other subjects such as: Physics, Geography, Economics and Biology. All students will, within this course, study some Pure Mathematics and some Applied Mathematics (chosen from Mechanics, Statistics and/or Decision Mathematics).
