Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Diploma Level 2 at St Helens College

Course description

Working in our automotive hub you'll be fixing faults, using computerised diagnostic tools and industry standard equipment.

You'll experience what it's like working in a real garage, using fabrication tools while learning everything you need to know about light vehicles.

Course content

  • Job roles
  • Fabrication tools
  • Measuring devices
  • Engines and related systems
  • Chassis and related systems
  • Transmission and related systems
  • Electrical/electronic and related systems

Entry requirements

You should have successfully completed a full level 1 diploma course.

English and maths forms an important part of your future, ensuring you achieve the best success in your chosen career. But don't worry, if you haven't got the desired grades, we will still have a course available for you.


You will be assessed by assignments, completion of module packs, online exams, workshop practical assessments and an e-portfolio submission.

Financial information

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2016), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. 

Future opportunities

Upon completion of this course, you may want to study at a more advanced level on a level 3 course or progress on to an apprenticeship.

Alternatively, you may wish to enter the automotive industry and gain employment as a technician and work your way up to garage manager.
