Michaeljohn Training is an independent specialist hairdressing and barbering academy based in the trendy Northern Quarter, the style hub of Manchester city centre. Michaeljohn educators are recruited to provide excellent training, reflecting current fashion techniques. From cutting to colouring the training is inspirational and personalised to you. This is why we have educated hundreds of hairdressers over the last 30 years who are now salon owners, managers, technicians, assessors, TV and video session stylists. All our Traineeship learners gain valuable employability and hairdressing skills, This is a ideally a great beginners pathway to hairdressing or barbering as it is a more guided and supported 16 week work experience program. The main advantage of carrying out this program prior to doing an apprenticeship with us is that it has been proven to increase the success rates of learners who later go on to securing an apprenticeship placement in any of our 250 salons (based locally to where you live) as it helps shape learners into better candidates with a good work ethic for the role of becoming a salon junior.

Build confidence in both self belief and hairdressing
Gain valuable experience working in a real salon environment
Learn interview and trial tips and techniques
Learn how to wash and blow dry hair to salon standards
Learn the role of a salon junior - making refreshments, answering client phone calls, greeting clients and cleaning stylist stations ect.
Becoming a refined ideal Apprentice candidate

During your time on this course:
As a learner you will receive payments towards meals and travel while on your placement.from both the salon owner and from us as your training provider
As a learners you will undertake a individualised programme of training to meet both your needs and ultimately, your future employers..
All our Learners are given the opportunity to experience all aspects of the hairdressing industry both in your placement salon and whilst attending the Training School as we are also a working day to day salon in central Manchester..
Training and theory aspects of this course are delivered by staff who are of the highest expertise with regards to the fast ever changing hairdressing industry of today. All eduction provided on this program is individualised to learners, by being able to achieve this we have found that this personal approach helps us create distinguished trainees creating excellent candidates for our apprenticeship program, this really does enable us to create hairdressers for the future.
Applicants for this course do not require any previous industry experience, nor are there any entry requirements needed. All we ask is that applicants have the passion and enthusiasm to achieve and progress in the hairdressing or barbering sector.

The qualification gained on this course are built up as units. There are Mandatory units and optional units to be selected by the candidates. Assessments are observed/ evidenced in the Training School and in the workplace. Background knowledge is evidenced through oral questioning and exams.
The Traineeship is funded by the Skills Funding Agency and ESF (European Social Fund)
We hope for all our Traineeship learners to progress onto a hairdressing apprenticeship, sustained employment or further training and education. Hairdressing is a varied industry that can take you anywhere, whether you want to work in a local salon or travel to the most exotic places in the world!
