A Level Mathematics at King Edward VI College, Nuneaton

Course description

This is a challenging and rigorous course which develops analytical and problem-solving skills through learning and applying mathematical techniques and methods. The course will be of interest to those who enjoy the satisfaction of solving problems. The Pure (or core) Mathematics course includes work involving aspects of algebra, co-ordinate geometry, trigonometry, calculus, numerical methods and vectors. The applied units take those skills and apply them in the areas of Statistics and Mechanics.

Entry requirements

College entry requirements plus GCSE Grade A in Mathematics. In addition, students are expected to gain an average GCSE score of 5.9 or better.

Financial information

£5 at enrolment to cover photocopying costs. Students will also be recommended to purchase their own textbooks covering the course.

Future opportunities

Many A Level students continue their studies at degree level in this or a related subject. It is necessary for the further study of Mathematics at University and frequently required for many other subjects, particularly the Sciences and Engineering. Many Universities also require the study of Further Mathematics for Mathematics degrees.
