Spanish A Level at Cowes Enterprise College

Course description

This two-year course builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills gained at GCSE. It is an integrated programme of study with a focus on language, culture and society. It fosters a range of transferable skills, including communication, research, critical thinking and creativity.

Course content

Aspects of Society: traditional and modern values, the modern family, cyberspace, sex equality and voluntary work.

Artistic Culture: the influence of idols, reginal identity, cultural heritage (music, film, architecture, art).

Multiculturalism: immigration, diversity and integration, racism, life of the marginalised.

Aspects of Political Life: voice of young people, monarchies and dictatorships, popular movements, demonstrations and strikes.

We will also study EITHER one film and one literary text OR two literary texts in depth.

Students will be required to study the grammatical system and structures of the language and carry out an individual research project. They need to present and
discuss their findings as part of the speaking assessment.

Entry requirements

  • •We would normally expect students to have achieved a strong grade in the language at GCSE.

Assessment

There are three examination papers at each level:

Paper 1: Listening, reading and writing including translations (50%)

Paper 2: Writing assessment with essays in Spanish on set literary text(s)/film (20%)

Paper 3: Speaking: A discussion with responses to a stimulus card. Presentation and discussion of individual research project (30%)
