English Language AS Level at The Leventhorpe School

Course description

The AS Level English Language course will teach students how to analyse everyday written and spoken language in detail, using the linguistic methods: Lexis & Semantics, Discourse Structure, Grammar & Syntax, Graphology, Phonology and Pragmatics. Students will learn about language diversity and will also develop their own skills as writers.

Entry requirements

Grade 5 in both GCSE English Language and Literature


AS Level English Language will be assessed in two ninety-minute exams. In the first, students will be asked to analyse and compare two texts; in the second they will write a discursive essay about language diversity and perform a directed writing task.
