Physics A Level at Central Foundation Boys School

Course description

Physics is the most fundamental of all the natural sciences and its theories attempt to describe the behaviour of the smallest building blocks of matter, light, the universe and everything in between. If you are already interested in GCSE Physics, you are excellent at maths, and you would like to know more about fascinating ideas such as quantum mechanics, relativity, cosmology, optics, electricity, forces and you love solving problems then physics is for you.

This course will enable you to understand how science works and its relevance beyond the classroom and laboratory. The course will show you how physics links to other sciences and how the subject underpins important technologies.

Entry requirements

To be considered for this course as part of a full A level programme you will need an average GCSE point score of 6 (B) including a minimum of grade 6 (B) in Physics, Maths and English.

At the end of the two years, the students will take 3 exams covering all the topics studied, with some questions assessing the practical skills.

Future opportunities

Physics is an essential qualification for degree courses in engineering, astronomy and in related subjects. The study of physics develops skills which are transferable to any course which requires analytical thinking – for example law, medicine, banking and dentistry.
