Carpentry (Site) - Level 2 Diploma at Yorkshire Coast College
Training for a career in Carpentry & Joinery offer you the chance to become the highly-skilled craftsperson you’re waiting to be. From the start of the course you’ll be involved in making decisions and helping others whilst learning how to demonstrate your craft skills in producing the very best that people expect.
The Level 2 Diploma in Site Carpentry will build on the basic knowledge gained at level 1 with the addition of tasks such as carrying out first and second fix operations, erecting structural carcasses and the use of a circular saw.
The course will cover the following units:
- Information, quantities and communicating with others
- Building methods and construction technology
- How to carry out first fix operations
- How to carry out second fix operations
- How to erect structural carcassing
- How to carry out maintenance
- How to set up and operate a circular saw
Minimum of 4 GCSEs grade D or above including Maths and English language and/or relevant subject qualification or level 1 course in chosen subject at merit or above and/or English language and Maths at level 1 If work experience opportunities arise, you
will be expected to attend.
For workshop activities, overalls/suitable clothing and stout footwear (no trainers) are mandatory. For theory, all necessary stationery will be required - pens, pencils, drawing equipment, scale ruler, lever arch file, paper and calculator.
After successful completion of the CITB Level 2 in Site Carpentry you could progress on to the CITB Level 3 in Bench Joinery or decide to enter the world of work and continue you study as an Apprentice.
Many former learners from Yorkshire Coast College have, once qualified, gone on to form very successful career working with larger companies and also forming their own joinery business.
Yorkshire Coast College works closely with Scarborough Borough Council, local and national employers who are all currently working on projects in our area. We are also looking at introducing a number of new local Apprenticeship opportunities. Some of the current and ongoing developments in our region include:
- A new housing development at Eastfield called Middle Deep Dale.
- The relocation of Tesco’s to a brand new site that will incorporate a new build
- A new housing development in Filey
- An extension to Sainsbury’s
The local average wage on entry in to a career in Carpentry and Joinery - depend on qualification – is £15,000.
