Music Technology A-Level at Diss High School

Course description

Music Technology plays a key role in music across the world. Like other forms of technology, it advances rapidly. This updated course provides opportunities to embrace recent developments in the field.

Course content

This is an exciting, challenging and fun subject. It involves a great deal of practical work and students will have opportunities to:

  • Sequence MIDI
  • Sequence audio
  • Record live performances
  • Produce CDs
  • Compose using music technology

Studying Music Technology will enable you to learning the skills required to make high quality recordings of musical performances. You will be involved in performing on your instrument or singing, during the course. You will learn how to compose and arrange, through Music Technology. Using computers will be an integral part of producing and presenting your work. You will also develop your knowledge of the principles and the developments of Music Technology over the past hundred years.

Entry requirements

You are required to have at least five Cs at GCSE including Maths and English Language at Grade C.

Subject Specific

Music Grade C

It is useful to have a grade C in GCSE Music, but it is more important that you can demonstrate good performing skills on your instrument. Having an interest in, or some previous experience with, Music Technology is also an advantage. This course will appeal to anyone who enjoys creating and listening to different styles of music.
