Mathematics - Further Mathematics A-Level at The McAuley Catholic High School

Course description

You are enjoying GCSE Mathematics, and want to deepen you knowledge and increase the challenge. You believe that your future studies will include a significant component of Mathematics.

Entry requirements

A grade A* in GCSE Mathematics along with a firm recommendation from your top set GCSE Mathematics teacher. All students taking Further Mathematics must take Mathematics in a separate block.

Future opportunities

Students intending to take Mathematics at Cambridge, Oxford, Warwick or other leading Universities are strongly recommended to study Further Mathematics through to A2 Level. If you are planning to take a degree in subjects such as Engineering, Actuarial Studies or Joint Honours degrees with Mathematics in the title, then studying Further Mathematics to at least AS Level will ease the transition in the first year of your course.

A person with a Maths degree can expect to earn £220 000 more over their lifetime than a person whose education ceased at A Level. The financial sector, the actuarial profession, ICT and teaching are some of the most popular choices of career, but there are many other areas that you may not have considered: in healthcare, the environment, transport, aerospace, automotive, construction, sport – the list is almost endless.
Further Mathematics qualifications are highly regarded and are strongly welcomed by universities and future employers. Students who take Further Mathematics are really demonstrating a strong commitment to their studies, as well as learning Mathematics that is very useful for any maths-rich degree and career.
