Media, Art and Design - Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media at Wakefield College

Course description

The course provides you with knowledge and skills to work and progress in many areas of the creative media sector, including; Film & Television, Photography, Audio Production and Graphic Design. This is an ideal foundation for those interested in traditional and new media.

Course content

You will gain a solid foundation in media principles and technologies through the study of units which may include: Introducing Media Products and Audiences Audio-Visual Skills Audio Skills Photography for a Media Product Planning and Producing of a Media Product Film and TV Media Products Sound for Media Products You will also work towards Functional Skills or GCSE qualifications in Maths or English. Maths and English are key elements of any full-time programme of study in College. If you do not already have a GCSE at grade A*-C in these subjects, you will need to attend sessions allocated on your timetable. These are varied and designed to cater for all ability levels. You will receive advice and guidance regarding the correct level for you. Skills in Maths and English will support your full-time course, assisting you with assignment writing, research, job applications, presentations, managing your own finances and interpretation of data, to mention just a few. They will also help you in the future. Most employers are looking for ability in these areas and the majority of university courses require you to have Maths and English GCSEs at A*-C. This is why the development of Maths and English is so important, whatever your field of study

You will participate in your own continuous assessment through practical projects. Your tutor will provide regular feedback and maintain a record of assessment which may be externally verified.

Financial information

Tuition and certification are free if you are aged 16-18 years old. Related additional costs may include materials, equipment, visits, residentials etc which are payable by all students.

Any student entered/registered with an Awarding Body who has been given free entry and then withdraws or is withdrawn by a tutor will incur the certification fee associated with the course. Any re-sit examination will incur a cost.

Different fees apply to international students.

Further study

With a Merit grade in Media, and necessary entry requirements (achievable in additional sessions if not already acquired prior to the level 2 qualification), and suitable reference you can progress to Level 3 Creative Media (TV & Film), Level 3 Photography, Level 3 Music Technology or Level 3 Graphics at Wakefield College.

Career opportunities

Further study at Level 3 could lead to employment or higher education in areas such as television, film, photography, music technology, graphic design, animation, web design and many more.
