Philosophy & Ethics AS/A2 Level at Chichester High Schools Sixth Form

Course description

AS Year:

In Philosophy you will be introduced to Greek influences on the Philosophy of Religion. You will investigate Plato’s theory of the forms and Aristotle’s body and soul distinction. You will also study the challenges to religious belief from Science and the amount of evil and suffering in the world.

Ethics involves the study of the way people make ethical decisions and the influence of religious belief on morality. This part of the course will involve studies on medical ethics, including PGD,GM Crops,Designer Babies, Abortion & Euthanasia. We also discuss the ethics of killing in war and the arguments for and against pacifism.

A2 Year:

In Philosophy you will investigate the different ways that people have tried to answer fundamental questions about Life after Death,Miracles and Religious Experience. You will study the nature of God and the debates surrounding it. In Ethics we will focus on applying ethical theories to the issues of: Sexual Ethics, Environmental Ethics and Business Ethics. We will also debate the nature of freedom, ethical language and conscience.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade C or above with a grade B in English.
