French - GCSE at Hurstmere School
Course Content: This New GCSE course concentrates on developing the students’ Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing skills over a wide range of practical topics. The main themes concentrate on personal information about the student and people’s Lifestyle (Health, Relationships and Choices), Leisure (Free Time and the Media, Holidays), Home and Environment (Home and Local Area, Environment Issues) and Work and Education (School/College and Future Plans, Current and Future Jobs). Students are expected to learn to discuss and write about these issues, offering their ideas and opinions as well as coping in a practical way with everyday situations. New, specific AQA textbooks and matching resources at Foundation and Higher levels have been recently purchased by our Department. Each student’s individual Speaking performance will be assessed in Year 10. Pupils will present their Controlled Assessment work in the form of two tape recordings before the end of the year. This will account for 30% of the overall GCSE grade. Two pieces of Writing Controlled Assessment will be prepared at the beginning of Year 11 for submission in January (30% of the GCSE grade). Exams will take place in April/May. A Listening Exam will account for 20% of the final grade and a Reading Exam will account for the last 20%. Specific dates and deadlines will be set by AQA as appropriate during the course. Module 1 15%, Module 2 15%, Module 3 Coursework 20%, Module Exam 4 50%
