Sport Football Academy Level 2 Diploma at Furness College
Course description
This is a full time course suitable for those who value the importance of vocational study. In essence it offers an opportunity for students to gain a recognised vocational qualification whilst working towards achieving their football ambitions. The programme offers quality coaching and an extensive opportunity to play in the College's Football team. In addition to our College team we also have links to Barrow AFC.
Course content
The course involves specialist coaching, volunteering experience, regular fixtures and a nationally recognised vocational qualification at Level 2 or 3. As part of the course there will be regular coaching with a UAFA qualified coach and you will be part
of the British College’s football league with match fixtures every week against other colleges in the Northwest.
Every full-time course will include a real experience of work.
Maths and English form part of this course and will be assessed at the relevant levels.
Entry requirements
Four GCSEs at grades D - G or other equivalent qualifications and a definite interest in or aptitude for sport. You will be expected to attend an interview. The course is suitable for 16-19 year olds who have good football ability.
You must have experience of any of the following:
• Professional Club involvement – e.g. School of excellence
• County FA School of Excellence
• National, County or District representation
• School or club level
Every full-time course will include a real experience of work.
Maths and English form part of this course and will be assessed at the relevant levels.
Assessment
There are no formal assessments for the Football Academy, but informal fitness and performance assessments take place at regular periods. You will be assessed on your main qualification through on going portfolio work.
Future opportunities
Progression on to a Level 3 Diploma, an Advanced Apprentice in Active Leisure, employment as a professional footballer or working in the leisure/gym/sports/retail industry. Progression is based on aptitude and a successful interview.
