Sport BTEC Level 1 at Lancaster and Morecambe College

Course description

This course provides an introduction to the sport and leisure sector. It can be used as the first step onto the vocational ladder and preparation for employment or further study.

Course content

You will study the following: • Working in Sport and Leisure • Improving Fitness • The Healthy Body • Risk and Hazards in Sport • Assisting at Events • Taking Part in Sport • Job Opportunities You will also undertake a work placement during the course. All LMC students will receive tutorial support and take a programme of Functional Skills including English and Maths. 

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade D-G preferably including English or maths. Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.


This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including practical and academic assignments. There are no formal examinations. 

Financial information

£45.00 charge for equipment, transport and visit costs.

Future opportunities

The course can lead onto a career in sport. It may also lead onto a level 2 course, either the BTEC Sport Level 2, the NCFE Diploma in Sports Coaching Level 2 or the NCFE Certificate in Sports Coaching Level 2.

Further information

You will be expected to undertake occasional home study on this course.

On completion of this course you will receive BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure and Functional Skills qualifications.
