Course description

Progress onto an advanced level apprenticeship or employment in the fabrication and welding industries by refining your skills on this level 3 course.

On this course you will build on the skills you gained at level 2. There are a number of units that require a slightly more academic approach. You will be working on pattern development, creation of drawings, and management of fabrication activities.

Course content

Mandatory units:

• Health & Safety

• Environmental awareness

Six optional units:

• Plate-work

• Mig welding

• Tig welding

• Mma welding

• Pattern development

• Managing fabrication activities

Entry requirements

The entry requirements for this course are a successful completion of a relevant level 2 qualification and a satisfactory college admissions interview.


Mandatory units will be assessed through online multiple choice examination. Mandatory unit three will be internally assessed. Optional units will be assessed through successful completion of a number of practical and written tasks.

After successful completion of this course you will be able to progress onto an advanced level apprenticeship in the industry.
