Science & Technology:Level 2 at Suffolk New College
The Gateway Level 2 Diploma in Science and Technology is a vocational, practical, work-related Level 2 programme. It provides an interesting and stimulating approach to the study of science and electronics. The study programme develops the skills needed to start a career in a related scientific or electronic field or offers progression to a Level 3 Vocational Science or Electronic programme.
All students who have not achieved a grade C or grade 4, or above in GCSE English or Maths or both will need to study an English or/and Maths qualification alongside their chosen main qualification. GCSE science may also be offered.
The Gateway Level 2 Diploma in Science and Technology is highly rewarding and provides a broad understanding and knowledge of, and skills, in the science sector. It encompasses all three science disciplines; Biology, Chemistry and Physics and Electronics. This qualification consists of studying seven units and is taught with an emphasis on laboratory-based practical assignments, supported by self-study, presentations, group work, discussion and educational visits. Assessments are being assessed internally. You will be encouraged to complete work experience in a scientific or electronics role and we will visit places of work to prepare you for your chosen career path. The core units include; Chemistry and Our Earth, Energy and Our Universe, Biology and our Environment, Electronics in Action, working in Science and Technology, Carrying out a Science or Technology Project and Electronic Devices and Communications Applications.
4 GCSEs at grade D or grade 3, including English Language, Maths and Science.

£30 for trips.
Students can progress onto our Level 3 Applied Science or L3 Electronics and then onto Higher Education in subjects such as Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering and Pharmacology. Students aspiring to do Medicine or Dentistry should follow the A level route. Alternatively, students may choose to enter into employment within science or electronic organisations which could include science technicians in hospitals or production plants, research work, and work in chemistry or biotechnology fields or working as an apprentice in electronics and computer related industries.
