Level 3 Extended Diploma in Information Technology (IT) at West Kent College

Course description

This course is an industry recognised, vocational qualification in IT & Computing. It covers a wide range of knowledge and skills in IT, including Networking, Programming, Web Development, Database design, Animation and Graphic design.

The course will provide you with the technical skill and theoretical knowledge to further your career to higher education, apprenticeship or jobs.

Some of the modules include:

• Computer Systems
• Networking Technology
• Data Communication
• Event Driven Programming using Visual Basic
• Procedural Programming using Python
• Object Oriented Programming using C#
• Games Programming using UNITY & C#
• Front-end Web Programming using HTML, CSS and JavaScript
• Back-end Web Programming using PHP & MySQL
• Graphic Design using Adobe Photoshop
• Animation using Adobe Flash
• Relational Database Design

The program equips you with current IT skill and knowledge and develops communication skills, logical thinking, time management and independent research.

Completion of this course gives you the equivalent of 3 A-levels in IT.

You will be assessed by written and practical assignments.

Entry requirements

You will need five GCSEs at Grades A*-C/9-4, including English and maths. Alternatively, a Level 2 Diploma in any subject at Merit, plus GCSE English and maths Grade C/4.

Future opportunities

Progression routes includes university study, HNC/HND to study a level 4/5 course in IT, Apprenticeship and/or job.

Our students in the past have joined universities like Manchester, Brighton, Greenwich, KENT, Nottingham Trent and Canterbury Christ Church. They have also joined apprenticeships or placements in organisations such as IBM, Fidelity, and Credit Suisse.
