Future opportunities

Physics is important for students considering studying any aspect of engineering. Electrical, Electronic, Civil, Audio, Aeronautical, Agricultural, Marine and Nuclear. Physics is a good background for many careers within the Health Service, e.g. medical doctors, nursing, radiographers, Nuclear Scientists, audiologists and in radiation protection. Other areas where a physics background is useful are IT and computing, geology, architecture and even in the financial market. The career opportunities available are as vast. Employers see a physics qualification as an indication of someone who will immediately be an asset to the organisation. This is because physics requires the following attributes:

  • a logical and numerate mind
  • the ability to solve problems
  • communication skills, developed through report-writing and presentations
  • computing and practical skills
  • teamwork and flexibility (essential for lab work and projects).
