Music Technology Company 2 (Music Technology Extended Diploma) at Weymouth College

Course description

Bay Studios is a dynamic, vibrant and above all, a highly creative place to work in and study Music, Music Technology, Dance, Acting and Musical Theatre. You will become part of a performance company, mirroring current industry practice and producing fully mounted gigs and productions here at the Studios and at other venues in the South West. The two year programme of study in Company 2 aims to provide you with the skills needed to succeed in the music technology industry or progress to Higher Education.

Course content

In phases 1 and 2, you will be trained in in the use of technology to create and record music, alongside developing essential skills as a DJ/live performer. Throughout the course there will be extensive opportunities to perform or showcase your productions, beginning with intimate gigs on campus and ultimately leading in phase 3 to your own club nights in the local area and beyond. You will emerge with a valuable blend of creative ability and practical skills, combined with an awareness of how to succeed in the rapidly evolving music business. By the end of the two years you will be equally at home in the recording studio, creating music and sound for media, composing cutting edge electronic music and developing live performances as a DJ or music performer.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or above including English Language or equivalent qualifications


Much of the work is of a practical nature, but there is also written work in the form of notes, projects, class work, reviews and assignments. There are no final exams, as all your work will be continuously assessed by the staff and moderated by an external verifier.

Future opportunities

Achievement of the qualification with suitable grades will enable progression to Higher Education or to employment/self-employment within the industry. Company 3 and the Level 5 HND in Music Technology provides a natural progression for our students.
