BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Sport / Sport & Exercise Science at Kingston College

Course description

This pathway is for students that have only secured 4 GCSEs and need to retake either GCSE English or Maths. Student will retake GCSE Maths or English if they do not have a grade C/4 or above. This is year 1 of the Level 3 Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science or the Level 3 Diploma in Sport (coaching pathway), it is aimed at learners who want academic experience and who may aspire to apply to university to study a foundation degree or work in the sports coaching industry after university. There is a good balance between coursework and practical work so this course will test your knowledge and skills. This qualification is equivalent to 1 A Level, which means that when you have finished the course you may choose to go into full time employment. However, the natural progression is onto the year 2 Level 3 Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science or Sport (coaching) programmes (with a maximum of 112 UCAS points being available).

If topping up into year two, most students progress to university to study a range of sport science subjects Limited Places, so early application is advised.

Course content

This course forms year one of the two year BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport. In Year 1 students will study 60 Credits ranging from Anatomy for Sport and Exercise; Exercise Physiology; Sport Psychology; Research Methods; Exercise, Health and Lifestyle; Practical Sport and complete a work experience placement. GCSE Mathematics or English retakes are also available if needed.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grade C/4 or above which must include English or Mathematics or a Level 2 Extended Certificate/Diploma in Sport at Merit grade.

Future opportunities

Students can progress into year two to top-up to a full BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science (then on to Higher Education) or progress directly into the sports industry.

    • The site at Kingston Hall Road is the College's main site and houses the Student Registry and Welfare departments as well as Deli KC and the ACT Theatre.  The Arena Sports facility and Arena Hair and Beauty are both attached to this building, which also houses the central administration facility for the College.
