Beauty Level 1 at North Kent College

Course description

As part of your continued training, you will spend a minimum of 3 sessions in our modern and well equipped beauty salons. You will be taught by experienced vocational lecturers who have worked, or are currently working, in the beauty therapy industry and they therefore have a wide and current experience of the industries needs and trends.
The practical salon skills are further supported by one to one reviews, underpinning theory and work skills.

The Level 1 Certificate in Beauty Therapy has a number of mandatory units, which include health and safety, prepare and maintain salon treatment work areas, contribute to the development of effective working relationships, assist with facial skin care treatments, assist with nail services. You will also provide basic treatments in manicures, pedicures and make-up as part of the Award.

Your initial training is carried out on group members before progressing onto paying clients. You will be expected to behave in a highly professional manner at all times while in the salons and surrounding public areas. You will wear a uniform and are required to bring all equipment with you for each salon session.

Entry requirements

A genuine interest in the beauty therapy industry and a satisfactory school report, including good attendance and behaviour.


Assessment is continuous throughout the course. Assessment will consist of practical observations written and oral questions, end of unit tests. You will also produce a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your skills and knowledge.

£70 Exam Board registration

Other Costs (payable by all students): £60 Material fee contribution and £40 Trip

Future opportunities

Successful students can progress onto a Level 2 programme. You must also produce a positive report and attendance records, achieve functional skills and pass the progression entry test.
