Business Studies AS level at Cannock Chase High School
Fancy yourself at the head of a successful business? Got some great ideas for new products or services? Or maybe you want to work for a large company by working in marketing or management. The Business Studies course gives you an incredibly powerful start to launch you on to becoming a business person. All the key topics of starting and running a business are covered.
Small businesses offering individual service or setting up your own business are also covered in the course. Whether you are selling homemade cakes or starting your own e-company, you still need to know about business. Topics that we shall cover would typically be: how to get your products to market; how to price them; how to promote them and, and how to get paid for them.
Ideally, GCSE Business Studies Grade B or above.
However if you do not have the above entry requirements we might consider you for a place on the course if you can demonstrate good literacy skills to cope with the demands of the written examinations, e.g., GCSE English Language (to at least Grade B standard).
There is also a requirement that you have strong numeracy skills as there is a move towards an increased mathematical content in this course.
You would be expected to have at least a grade B in GCSE Mathematics.
This course is assessed 100% through exams which take place in a linear style, i.e., at the end of Year 12 and Year 13.
Business Studies opens up a range of options; students could combine this subject with another more vocational subject and begin to develop a career path in their chosen field. Alternatively they could study Business with a view to pursuing it to degree level and following a career in General Management, Sales, or Accountancy perhaps. We also envisage a number of students using their business studies training as momentum to consider running their own businesses.
