Photography A Level at London Academy

Course description

Photography has emerged recently as a major art form and is now shown in many galleries. It also has a place in many areas of contemporary culture and media.

Photographic images surround us everywhere from advertising to fashion and news to documentary – photographs communicate strong messages and are our most familiar source of information about the world in which we live. This course will help you make sense of the visual communication we experience daily.

You will study the main areas of photography from Still Life to Portraiture and Landscape Photography. You will study a wide range of Photographers, study the use of digital and some traditional photographic techniques and learn about layout and presentation, vital skills in today’s media orientated employment market.

This course is suitable for students with a strong interest in photography and the visual arts. Photography is taught as a discipline that is part of the wider area of Art and Design. The course is an ideal partner for AS/A2 Art, Craft and Design, AS/A2 Graphic Communication and AS/A2 Textiles and also AS/A2 Media Studies.

Entry requirements

Ideally students should have some practical experience and evidence of success in a creative subject at Key Stage 4 as the course requires a degree of creative ability and skills in writing to achieve success.
