Art & Design AS & A Level at Archbishop Tenison's School
Art involves exploring ideas, as well as developing skills in the use of materials. You will develop your understanding of the world through questioning and increase your skill in visual expression. This is an engaging course that develops research skills, creative problem solving, visual and creative thinking in addition to the skills in executing high quality art work.
Art consists of two units, unit one is coursework and unit two is the externally set assignment. Each unit counts as 50% of the overall grade. Unit one is delivered as two thematic projects, previous themes have included science and nature and passions and obsessions.
In addition to the Minimum Entry Requirements you will need a GCSE grade B in Art
All work is assessed under four objectives which are Develop, Explore, Record and Present. The aim of the course is to develop students’ ability to work through the creative process.
These courses allow students to access a wide range of creative pathways, either by creating a portfolio to apply for art foundation courses, or to apply for creative degree courses. Students have gone on to study fine art, fashion and architecture. The courses are highly valued by administrators of creative courses
