IT (Networking or Software pathway) BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Amersham and Wycombe College

Course description

If you are 16-19 years old and want a strong foundation in Information Technology, that will prepare you for work and university, then this is the course for you. There are two pathways in this course; one with emphasis on Networking in the second year, with emphasis on Software.


Course content

The course covers mobile applications, developing skills in communication technology, web design, networking, games design, programme languages, computer coding and employability skills.

Year 1 course = 90 credit Diploma
Year 2 course = a further 90 credits providing in total a 180 credit Extended Diploma


Entry requirements

4 GCSEs C or above including English & Maths or a Level 2 Diploma at Merit level including appropriate levels in Maths and English.



You will be assessed through various methods including, written assignments (reports and essays), presentations, work based assignments, assessed activities (building and managing a computer system or developing and managing a network/games design and animation and programming languages) and group and team work.

External assessment of some mandatory units in the second year.

Your tutor will advise you what equipment you need to purchase when you start the course.

Future opportunities

BTEC Level 3 Extended Diplomas are the equivalent to 3 A* Levels and valued by employers and higher education. You can progress to HND, employment, university or onto specialist programmes such as CompTIA A+ and CISCO Networking CCNA studies.
