Topics Covered:

Families and Households.
An analysis of the family relationship to the social structure and social change including changing patterns of marriage, child bearing, childhood and gender roles.

Education and Sociological Methods
An examination of the role and purposes of education and investigation of the causes of differential achievement.  How do Sociologists do Research. The application of research methods to the study of Education.

Theory and Research

Students investigate various research methodologies and the theories that support them.

Assessment

Paper 1: Education with Methods in Context

  • 1 hour 30 minutes written exam
  • 60 marks
  • 50% of AS level

Paper 2: Research Methods and Topics in Sociology

  • 1 hour 30 minutes written exam
  • 60 marks
  • 50% of AS level
