BTEC Applied Science at King Ecgbert
Students study all aspects of science from DNA in Biology to the physics used in medicine to dynamic equilibrium in chemistry.
BTEC science will introduce you to high level scientific skills and concepts in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. You will learn and develop essential skills in Mathematics, literacy and organisation. You will demonstrate this knowledge and understanding of topics through coursework assignments. The focus throughout is keeping the science in the context of real life situations.

The school organises several trips out into Industry and Sheffield University. Some trips will be paid for by school funds but there may be some small costs for transport when required.
This course lays the groundwork for further study in science based courses e.g. engineering, nursing, pharmacy, laboratory based courses etc, although many students have also gone onto study non science based qualifications such as law, teaching etc.
The opportunity to gain a qualification equivalent to 1 A level in Y12 has been helpful for successful applications.
This is a popular but challenging and rewarding course; the new BTEC structure and syllabus offers exciting opportunities to continue with our consistently achieved 100% pass rate in both Y12 and Y13.
We are proud to operate an open door policy where students can feel supported and encouraged at whatever level they are operating. It is our aim to work with you and the people that support you to help you achieve the very best that you can in BTEC Science.
