Engineering - Level 2 First Certificate (Edexcel) at Blackpool and The Fylde College

Course description

The course is broad based covering a wide range of aeronautical, electronic and manufacturing subjects.  Subjects have been developed through close links with industries. You will be equipped with the skills and applied knowledge that will enable you to provide twenty first century technologies to industrial situations and glimpse into what the future holds for these skills and technologies.

Our investment into your future has led to the development of our fantastic new building, the Advanced Technology Centre (ATC). This £10.5m investment means that we can provide you with state-of-the-art technology including industry standard CNC (computerised numerical control) machines, CAD-CAM, industry quality centre lathes, milling machines and so much more! The environment mirrors the industry you’ll be progressing to and helps you to prepare for the world after education.

Our tutors have come from industry and have a passion and dedication for sharing their years of experience and industry-relevant information with you.

Our courses not only help you on your step-ladder to success in Engineering but also include opportunities in developing industry-relevant skills that you can take into the workplace, to develop maths and English skills, opportunities to progress to Higher Education, apprenticeships and employment.

Course content

The course may include:-

Engineering Science and Maths, Engineered World, Using Engineering Information, Investigating Engineered Products, Machining, Computer Aided Engineering, Electronic Circuit Construction & Design and Engineering Project.

Assessment

Individual continuous assessment, and two externally assessed units (an On-Line assessment & Written Paper assessment)

Future opportunities

Successful students achieving at least one L2 Merit grade overall and GCSE C in Maths, will have the opportunity to pursue their studies to Level 3 or an apprenticeship in industry with local and national organisations.  This path could eventually give opportunity to progress to higher education.
