Aviation Operations (City & Guilds) Certificate at Solihull College & University Centre

Course description

Our Level 3 City and Guilds in Aviation Operations teaches those who decide to pursue a career in the aviation industry all the relevant and necessary skills and procedures to work for any number of national or international airline services.

Students will need to be able to handle the pressures of high work standards, rigorous training and health and safety procedures whilst maintaining top customer service to passengers. On this course you will study the daily life of a cabin crew member, the emergency and safety procedures during flight and dealing with passengers on board.

Course content

You will study a range of subjects relevant to the industry such as:

- Health And Safety In The Aviation Industry
- Security In The Aviation Industry
- Handling Air Passengers

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above one of which must be Maths and one which must be English. You will also be required to bring a school report and a recent reference.

For students progressing from Travel and Tourism Level 2, a Merit grade profile would be required, along with an excellent attendance and punctuality record.

Assessment

The subject units are assessed in a variety of ways; some are assessed by assignments which may involve working in groups or independently and marked by your teachers using City and Guilds Criteria.

Some assignments are assessed whilst undertaking practical activities.

Level 3 Certificate in Aviation Operations

When completing work for this qualification you will be awarded a pass, merit or distinction grade (or a combination of these grades appropriate to the qualification taken). This qualification has 3 units. You will need to successfully complete all 3 units in order to achieve your qualification.

Future opportunities

If you are successful on this course, you will be able to continue studying on a suitable Travel and Tourism course.

This will enable you to apply for Higher Education if you wish or you could pursue employment within the Aviation Industry.

Further information

You will need to dress smartly and wear an appropriate uniform for all lessons. You will be expected to attend all day trips throughout the year.

There will be an additional cost of £250 to cover the cost of all trips and travel for the academic year.

You will also be required to purchase a uniform details of which will be given at interview and again upon successful completion of the Welcome Day.

Good levels of English and Maths are important for your success in your course, your chosen vocation and life. Throughout your course you will continue to develop your English and Maths skills in your vocational classes if necessary.
