Gorverment and Politics – A Level at Hitchin Girls School

Course description

For the first AS Unit, Contemporary Politics of the UK
(F851), you will study political parties, pressure groups,
electoral systems and referenda, UK parliamentary
elections and voting behaviour in the UK. The second
AS Unit, Contemporary Government of the UK (F852)
covers the constitution, the executive, the legislature,
the judiciary and the European Union.
At A2 you will study Contemporary US Government
and Politics (F853) which includes studying elections,
presidential and congressional, political parties,
pressure groups, the constitution, congress, the
presidency, the Supreme Court and civil rights
and liberties. Then you will study US Government
and Politics (F855) which involves comparing and
contrasting different features of British and American
politics and, where relevant, making connections
to and comparisons with the political system of the
European Union.
