Science Applied BTEC National Diploma (Double Award) at Goodwin Academy

Course description

Scientists work in industry, the health service, government establishments and educational institutions. Fields of work include research and development and scientific analysis, and there are employment opportunities in almost every industry, from food and drink to pharmaceutical.

Applied Science is a vocational subject where students are assessed through the completion of coursework. Applied Science provides the knowledge, understanding and skills for learners wishing to enter a career in the areas of laboratory and industrial science, medical science or forensic science.

This qualification is equivalent to two A levels.


Entry requirements

5 A*-C grades at GCSE (level 4 for Mathematics and English) including double Science at grade C or higher.


Students are required to complete a portfolio of tasks that are accredited at pass, merit or distinction.

This qualification is equivalent in size to two A Levels. 8 units of which 6 are mandatory and 3 are external.

Future opportunities

This course provides support for anyone who would like to progress to a more specific area of science including university study, further education or employment.
