Course content

This Advanced Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care will help secure a work placement through Croydon College (if you don’t have one already) giving you the opportunity to continue earning while learning.

Just a few of the course highlights include:

  • Professionals from organisations including Croydon Council visit the College to talk about relevant issues such as safeguarding.

  • The chance to boost your CV and win a tablet, by entering the College’s popular competition - Apprentice of the Month! Tutors nominate apprentices who meet the nomination criteria, which includes improved overall achievement and high grades.

  • You will be taught by staff who are professionals in their own right having worked as care home managers and nurses.

  • On completion of the course you’ll receive a City & Guilds Apprenticeship, which is widely recognised both nationally and internationally.

  • The opportunity to show potential employers that you have excellent training and work experience behind you.

  • Our dedicated Apprenticeship Team at the College will support you throughout your training.

  • Great earning potential - research shows that apprentices earn, on average, over £100,000 more throughout their career than other employees (NAS, 2013).

  • Work ready - a Department for Business, Innovation and Skills survey showed that qualified apprentices score 4% higher on employability than university graduates (ICM Survey, 2013).

Entry requirements

A minimum of 4 GCSEs grade C or higher, one being English or maths or a related Level 2 vocational course at Merit or higher (if a Pass grade is achieved GCSE grades and/or functional skills results can also be considered).

English and maths assessed at Level 1 or above.

The assessment structure is designed to make your learning experience a fun one.  It includes observations in the work place, written work, professional discussions and questions.

The use of witness statements makes it possible for you to gather evidence that might otherwise have been missed. This means that colleagues, managers, service users or service users’ advocates can make a big contribution to your learning by making a statement about the good practice that they witnessed you demonstrate.

Future opportunities

Apprentices  tend to progress from care assistants to supervisory roles, train as nurses or embark on the Level 5 Diploma, having secured a managerial role during the Level 3 course.
