IT – BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at The Clarendon Academy
Unit 1 – Communication and employability skills for IT
The aim of this unit is to ensure that learners understand both the personal attributes valued by employers and the principles of communicating effectively whilst developing effective communication skills and addressing their own personal development needs.
Unit 2 – Computer systems
The three main learning aims for this unit are:
- understand the components of computer systems
- be able to recommend computer systems for a business purpose
- be able to set up and maintain computer systems.
In this unit you will learn how to maintain a computer system. You will learn about hardware components that make up a personal computer and software needed to run them. The course is very practical, you will be taking computers apart and putting them back together again, hopefully in working order.

A practical IT qualification provides many opportunities, for employment and further study, at A2 and Degree level. IT is a ‘life skill’ and the sorts of skills you will be gaining on this course will be useful in just about every employment field in the 21st Century.
