AS/A2 Level Film Studies at Burton and South Derbyshire College

Course description

Film Studies is designed to deepen students’ understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of film, the major art form of the Twentieth Century and one developing new modes of expression and exhibition in the first decades of the Twenty First Century. Enrichment programmes include College Film Club.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at Grade C or above. Due to essay writing and exam completion it is ideal that you have a minimum of a C in English at GCSE Level.

Future opportunities

Film Studies is available to study at Higher Education; via practical media courses and employment including Media/Film Production and Journalism.

Further information

First year coursework will be: • Microanalysis of film extract. • Creative Project and Storyboard. Examinations: • Producers & Audiences. • British Film (Horror). • US Films (Romantic Comedies). Second year coursework will be: • A small scale Research Project and Creative Project – Screenplay. • Examinations in World Cinema Topic (French New Wave), Spectatorship Topics (Documentary Film) and Single film critical study (Vertigo, Hitchcock 1958).
