There are many careers available for linguists in the business world and hospitality industries, where translators, interpreters, bi- or trilingual secretaries are in increasing demand.  Journalism and teaching are also natural career options.  A language is a useful subsidiary subject to pursue at degree level, often offering the option of a year studying abroad.
