Health and Social Care (Double Award) AS Level at Weatherhead High School
Do you enjoy a challenge? Are you a good communicator? Do you care about other people and how our society develops?
Health and Social Care can give you these opportunities. You will be expected to be part of the team, in Year 12, which organises and runs our local community mums and toddler group 'Weathertots'. You will also need to visit and work with the elderly and children with specific needs to develop interpersonal and communication skills. Placement is also required to support your coursework units.
The course covers a wide range of health, social care and early years' issues which allow you to follow pathways of interest to your future career.
You will need a minimum of 5 GCSEs at C or above, including English.
Health and Social Care is specially designed to be studied alongside Biology, Psychology, and Sociology.
You will complete external exams in the following units: UNIT 1 Human growth and development UNIT 4 Social Aspects and Lifestyle Choices Examinations are 1 hr 30 minutes
You will complete the following units as internal assignments: UNIT 2 Communication Skills within Health and Social Care UNIT 3 Positive Care Environments UNIT 5 Activities in Health and Social Care UNIT 6 Public Health
Progression routes into further training and higher education are far reaching: Nursing, social work, youth and community workers, health promotion, nursery managers are some of the potential careers open to you.
You will be taught by knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff who will work with you to ensure you achieve your best. Our results, over the last 5 years, are proof that students do achieve and progress onto university both locally and across the UK.
