Information and Creative Technology Level 2 BTEC Extended Certificate at Buxton & Leek College
Course description
Computing and ICT has become such an important industry because it affects just about everything we do in our lives. This course is an interesting and challenging introduction forstudents wanting to pursue a career in the world ofInformation Technology or Computing. Students will gain hands-on access to a wide range of computer hardware including opportunities to delve inside the computers, work with digital images and animation,learn programming skills and gain understanding of networking and the internet. Students weill also study to improve their maths and English, aiming to achieve a grade C in both at GCSE.
Course content
Students who achieve merit grade or above will be offered automatic progression onto the BTEC Extended Diploma in IT or other Level 3 qualifications at the college. Career progression for Computing and ICT can include: IT Technician, Computer Game Designer, Website Designer, Software Developer, etc.

Entry requirements
• 4 GCSEs at Grade D or above; or
• BTEC Foundation Certificate in a similar subject; or
• Pathway to Progression Level1 Diploma in Vocational Studies.
Assessment
Students study up to twelve units most of which are assessed through practical coursework activities. Two units are assessed by externally set examinations.
