A Level History at THW encourages you to explore the events and issues that have shaped the modern world we live in. The focus is on modern British and World history with an emphasis on change and development over time with an opportunity to complete an in-depth study on an aspect of recent history.
You will learn about: • How WW1 and WW2 changed Britain • The origins of the Welfare State and it’s current condition • Labour v Conservative in the 1970’s • Thatcher, Blair and Brown • American Civil Rights in the 1950’s and 60’s to the present day • Propaganda and media in the 19thand 20th centuries
Grade C at GCSE History. Otherwise grade B in English GCSE.
Year 12: Unit 1L Britain 1906-1951and Unit 2P Civil Rights in the USA 1950-68 – assessed by examination Year 13: Unit 3M Britain 1951-2007 assessed by exam. Unit 4X Personal Study - assessed internally
Employers value History students because of the wide range of skills they learn as well as their ability to work independently or as part of a team. An A level in History is good preparation for many careers such as: Law, journalism, Politics, Media, Police, Social Work, Teaching and many other areas of work
Students play an active part in lessons via presentations and discussions. They are expected to contribute their views and opinions in class. They are encouraged to research topics independently and to read widely about current events as well as historical ones. Extensive use is made of onsite library and ICT resources as well as visits to Warwick University as part of the Unit 4 Personal Study.
