GCSE Health and Social Care at Solway Community Technology College

Course description

This Edexcel GCSE is a single award where pupils can achieve from an A* - G.  A week of work experience is completed at the end of Year 10 in a school or nursery.  The work from that informs the Controlled Assignment which is 60% of the final mark.  An exam is taken in Yr 11 which completes the qualification and is worth 40%.  We have many former pupils who have found this qualification essential to  the next step in the career be it in school, hospital or another part of the care sector. 

Course content

Unit 1 - The exam unit.  Understanding Personal Development and Relationships.  The 6 client groups are studied in depth looking at the physical, emotional, social and emtional needs and development of individuals.

 

Unit 2 - The Controlled Assignment - Exploring Health, Social Care and Early Years Provision.  This is produced in conjunction with teaching, work experience and an in class assignment.
