IB Mathematical Studies at Thamesview School

Course description

The IBCP is a unique programme addressing the needs of students engaged in career-related education. IBCP students study two IB Diploma Programme (DP) courses, a core consisting of four components and a BTEC Diploma subject.

Course content

Topic 1- Number and algebra

Topic 2- Descriptive statistics

Topic 3- Logic, sets and probability

Topic 4- Statistical application

Topic 5- Geometry and trigonometry

Topic 6- Mathematical models

Topic 7- Introduction to different calculus

Project- Individual piece of work where students collect data and /or measurements to analyse and evaluate.

Entry requirements

Minimum of 6 GCSEs at Level 4 or above (A*-C equivalent), including English Lit or Lang at grade 4 and Maths at Level 4.


Assessment is by a mixture of written final papers and internal assessment. 

Financial information

Students will need to purchase a scientific calculator. Guidance will be given to students when they recieve an offer of a place.

Future opportunities

This exciting qualification gives students an excellent opportunity to move into a number of different pathways.

The course can lead to University places with recognised UCAS points attached to each element of the programme. It could also lead to higher level apprenticeships and directly into a job role.
