Hairdressing Apprenticeship City and Guilds Level 2 at The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London

Course description

This course is for those wishing to gain a commercial qualification and gain employment as a first-year operator or for those who are progressing from the Hairdressing Level 1 course.

It will cover advising and consulting clients, shampooing and conditioning the hair and scalp, styling hair using blow drying and setting techniques, perming hair, changing hair colour, salon reception duties, developing and maintaining effective teamwork and relationships and supporting the health and safety and security of the salon environment. You will study Functional Skills in English and maths.

Course content

This course has practical sessions delivered in Commercial Hairdressing salons with theory being delivered using state of the art interactive whiteboards and ICT provision to help with assignments. One to one tutorial support is provided by industry qualiifed lecturers with up to date knowledege of new and emerging trends. practical assessments are carried out in the workplace by our qualifed work based assessors.

Entry requirements

You must already be working within the industry. You will need 3 GCSE passes at grades C–D (including English and mathematics or science) or Hairdressing NVQ 1 with related key, functional or basic skills. If you do not have the above entry requirements you will be required to take the College’s initial assessment.


Assessment is carried out by practical observation, oral questioning, assignments, written papers and online exams.

Future opportunities

You could progress to VRQ Hairdressing Level 3, specialist awards or an advanced modern apprenticeship or Barbering Level 2 course.
