Designed to meet the needs of young people on the autism spectrum, individuals with Asperger’s Syndrome or those with difficulties with social communication and interaction.
The course aims to support each young adult’s transition into college, with low arousal classrooms in a large quiet area. With ongoing support, students can access the wider college community at their own pace.
The course covers a range of subjects including: social communication; aspects of adulthood; work skills; enterprise; creative and performing arts and functional skills in Maths and English.The team will work on developing each individual’s confidence and social interaction skills through group activities within the classroom and the wider community.
A specifically designed 'speech and language support' programme helps to improve communication and social interaction skills as well as activities to develop employability skills – essentials for living and working in the community.
No formal education requirements are needed. Places are offered following a successful link and assessment visit to your school or current provider.
Your progress is assessed throughout the programme.
On completion, you may be able to progress to other courses within the department or to other adult services.
