Hairdressing & Beauty Therapy Level 1 Diploma at Heart of Worcestershire College

Course description

Are you passionate about the hair and beauty industry? Do you read fashion magazines in search of the latest hair trends or style disasters? Whether you are thinking of becoming a mobile stylist or dream of owning your own salon, our Level 1 course will introduce you to the world of hairdressing and beauty to provide you with the skills and training you need to develop a great career in the field. Our one-year course offers a hands-on approach that balances basic theory with some great practical experience to give you the best possible start in the industry. You will develop skills in customer service, shampooing, blow drying, applying temporary colour, basic skin care and make up application, reception duties, basic nail art and working in the hair and beauty industry.

Entry requirements

You will need four GCSEs at grade D or above, these must include maths and English together with a successful interview.


You will be assessed in a variety of ways including, practical assessments working on paying clients, written assignments or papers, online multiple choice assessments. Part of your programme does require you to work independently completing given tasks to support your underpinning knowledge and you will also be encouraged to complete further research and skill building outside of timetabled hours.

Future opportunities

Successful completion of this course will allow you to look at progressing onto the Diploma in Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy, Level 2, or a hair only or beauty only level two pathway.

Subjects taught at Alliance House include bricklaying, carpentry and joinery, site carpentry, bench joinery, multi-trade construction operations, plastering, plumbing and painting and decorating. The building is equipped with purpose built working environments allowing you to develop real-life working skills to prepare you for life after college.

      Located on Albert Street, Osprey House is the College’s central office. It is also home to the College’s higher education and professional courses. Our excellent range of higher education and professional courses provide you with the skills, knowledge and support to progress in your future career.
