A Level Sociology at Hardenhuish School

Course description

This is a very popular and thought provoking subject, studying
how society works and the extent to which our behaviour and
opportunities can be shaped by our social class, age, gender and
race. We question the society in which we live in order to
understand the relationship between individuals and institutions.
This allows students to understand the world in which they
live - how and why it functions as it does.
The following are some of the questions addressed throughout
the course:
How and why has the
British family changed
over the last 50 years?

Why do class, ethnicity and
gender appear to impact on
performance at school?

How influential is the
mass media and should it
be restricted in any way?

Why does crime occur
and how reliable are
official statistics?
