Chemistry A Level at Newlands Girls' School
Chemistry is the basis of life and how we live. We would not exist but for Chemistry and the results of research are around us all the time. Chemistry is vital to everything!
At AS you will study the basic principles of physical chemistry, trends in Group 2 and Group 7 elements and some organic chemistry.
Students studying A Level will extend their knowledge of physical, inorganic and organic chemistry.
You need to have achieved a minimum of grade BB in Double Science GCSE or a minimum of grade B in Chemistry GCSE to be considered for this course. Furthermore, you need to achieve a minimum of a B grade in the Additional Science Chemistry module (C2) examination
for Double Science.
Owing to the extensive use of Mathematics and complex language in Chemistry we
recommend grade C minimum in Mathematics GCSE and English Language GCSE.
At AS there are two written papers covering the course content and practical skills.
There are three examination papers at A Level which will assess theoretical and practical aspects of the course.
