Chemistry at Washwood Heath Academy

Course description

A Level Chemistry will prepare you for a career in science or equipyou with the critical thinking skills needed for many other careers.There are two levels of study AS (1 year) or A level (2 year). Content isas follows:
AS: Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry
A Level: As above plus Thermodynamics, Electrochemistry,Acids and Bases, Transition Metals, Aromatic Chemistry, OrganicSynthesis, N.M.R and Chromatography.

Entry requirements

You will need B grades or above in: GCSE Mathematics,plus either GCSE Chemistry OR GCSE Core Science andAdditional Science.


The units are assessed by exams at the end of the course. AS involves 2 x 1.5 hour exams and A-Level is 3 x 2 hour exams.

Chemistry is ideal for those seeking a careers such asMedicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, Biochemistry,Physiotherapy, Pharmacy, Optometry, Nursing, ForensicScience or Engineering. It will also equip you for a career inindustries such as petrochemicals or pharmaceuticals. Alternatively,Chemistry A Level is held in such high regard that students go on toa diverse range of careers such as Law, Accounting, Computing andTeaching.
