Business and Computing Level 1 Diploma at Darlington College

Course description

This study programme builds the foundations within business and computing.  It includes units that develop understanding in the key areas that will encourage employability within industry such as professional behaviour in an office environment, planning and running an enterprise activity, using a computer in business administration and IT user fundamentals.

There is the opportunity for practical assessment outside of the college environment.  You will have the chance to visit other organisations to see how they run as well as be invited to take part in sessions with guest speakers from other working environments.

Course content

A sample of units you will be required to undertake include:

  • professional behaviour in an office environment
  • working in business and administration
  • welcome visitors
  • recording business transactions
  • supporting business meetings
  • planning an enterprise activity
  • running an enterprise activity
  • working in a team
  • using a computer in business administration
  • using email
  • IT user fundamentals
  • communicating electronically
  • creating business documents
  • word processing software
  • using the internet

Entry requirements

No formal qualifications required but a keen interest in business or computing is essential. We will request a school or college report and you will attend an interview at the college.

Assessment

The assessments will be undertaken through assignments and observations.

Future opportunities

You can progress onto a Level 2 qualification within Business or Computing.
